Frequently asked questions

How much do you charge for initial consultation?

We do not charge for initial consultation whether that is over the phone, teams call or in person. During our first chat we like to get feel for your ambitions for the project, understanding your budget and where you are in relation to your goals. Once we understand the brief from you we will draft up a fee quote which will detail subsequent payments for drawings and meetings.

How much does an architect cost?

Depending on the size of project, the architect usually charges anywhere between 4-15% with larger projects taking the smaller percentage figure.

Do you have a portfolio of work?
How does the process work?

First we have a free initial consultation with you to understand your needs, wants and budget. Then we produce a fee quote for you to agree and proceed to survey to use as a basis to create drawings.

In terms of the drawing process, there are planning stages if you need consent from your local authority, or permitted development if it is in your right to build without the need for consent.

Once approval has been granted by the authority, we can typically proceed to building regulations application where we can ensure your local building control body will approve the drawings comply to current standards and regulations.

Once these two hurdles have been successful cleared, we can use these building regulations drawings as basis for tender to get quotes from builders.

Once you are happy with a the price set out by a builder, they can carry out site investigations for us to produce the final set of construction drawings ready to build.

We also provide the builders with periodic site visits to ensure that the drawings are followed as a quality control measure for the client.

What are your qualifications and experience?

Anyone who is calling themselves an ‘Architect’ must be registered by the Architects Registration Board and you should be able to check this at www.arb.org.uk.

If the architect is accredited by the RIBA they will be expected to meet certain standards. All RIBA Charted Practices must have at least one RIBA charted individual, and have Personal Indemnity Insurance.

What sets you apart from other architects?

We are a family run business that has long history of successful planning applications and completed projects. The practise was formed in 1983, so we both have experience and new upcoming talent to draw from.
