Overview

Stiles West is a high-end social housing project that comprises of 3 residential blocks of 41 modern dwellings with private and/or resident only outdoor spaces. We are proud to have designed an environment that is cultivates a sense of community and quality of living. The also project provides a community hub with stylish co-working space, lounge and gym for residents only.

Each block offers a variety in contemporary and modern design features, such as cantilevers, floating roofs and complementary materials to create a dynamic social space that is not overbearing. Block A the largest block out of the 3, accommodating 37 dwellings; mitigates the imposition of its size by creating a floating roof through mixture of blue clad and glass. The effect results in lighter feeling to overall mass of the building block and allows for a beautiful penthouse series of dwellings on the top floor.

As Block B is only a storey tall with a mixture of flats and duplex’s, we chose to take an alternate strategy by creating a cantilevered design into the courtyard space to provide the outdoor walkway with a sense of enclosure, whilst also maximising the floor area for the 1st floor flats.

This project also exemplifies excellent thermally efficiency and building standards with use of high performance insulation and sustainable energy efficient mechanical solutions such as ASHP and MVHR systems as well as PV solar panels to provide the homes with brilliant air and thermal comfort necessary for future generations.

This multimillion-pound project facilitates residents with their own little get away from the busyness of London, as this site is only moments away from Wimbledon Village and Merton Abbey Mills.
